Depending on number, size and weight, the policies applied to the pets might vary. But one things for sure you will still be able to fly with them. What Are The Spirit Airlines Pet Fees?

The charges of carrying a pet with you might differ according to the airlines you are travelling with. If you are traveling with Spirit Airlines with a pet in the cabin, the fee is $125 each way. Along with this, the fee for service animals is waived.

What Kind Of Pets Allowed In The Passenger Cabin For Spirit Airlines?

As per the Spirit Airlines pet policy, only small domestic dogs, cats, household birds, and rabbits are allowed to travel in the passenger cabin.

Spirit Airlines only allows passengers to travel with their pets on domestic flights like flights between the U.S. and Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

While talking about International flights, only service dogs are allowed on all the international flights. Other types of animals are not allowed on international flights.

Note: Spirit Airlines doesn't allow household birds and rabbits for the flight to/from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Spirit Airlines doesn't permit online booking for pets. 
  • All pet owners traveling with their pets must check in at the counter at Spirit Airlines. The passenger must reach a few hours before the flight's departure.
  • The airline has set a limit for the total number of pets in a particular plane, and it also varies per the availability of seats. So if you are looking forward to traveling with your pets, you must immediately reserve a space for your pet after booking.
  • Passengers can also call Spirit Airlines to add pets to their reservations.

What Documents are required for pets in the passenger cabin?

  • While talking about the pet documentation, Spirit Airlines doesn't require a health certificate for pets to travel in the passenger cabin.
  • There are some exceptions, like the flights to the U.S. Virgin Islands. On this route, the airline may ask for health documentation.
  • The pet must be older than 8 years old, fully weaned, and odorless.
  • Spirit Airlines can remove any animal if they show aggressive behavior during the flight.
  • The pet should remain inside the container the whole time, and it shouldn’t require attention from the owner.

What Are The Guidelines For The Carrier Of The Pet in Spirit Airlines?

  • The weight of the pet and carrier together should not be more than 40 lbs.
  • The carrier should be compact enough to fit under the seat and not exceed the dimension of 18" x 14" x 9" (45.72cm x 35.56 cm x 22.86cm).
  • The carrier should be soft-sided.
  • The carrier must be spacious enough for the pet to stand, roam and sit comfortably inside. 
  • Spirit Airlines allows a total of 4 pet containers per flight.
  • Single pet container is allowed per passenger.
  • Passengers can bring 2 pets in the same carrier until it doesn’t hamper the comfort of both pets.

What Are the Conditions for Service Animals In Spirit Airlines?

The rules for service animals differ from that for other pets;

  • Service Animals can travel on both domestic and international flights. They can travel as the pets in the cabin.
  • The airline also looks out for the confirmation of the individual with a disability who intends to take the service animal along with them.
  • Effective immediately, new federal regulations specify that only dogs that have been individually trained to perform work or tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability will be accepted as trained Service Animals for air travel.
  • Passengers traveling with a Service Animal are required to complete and submit the U.S. DOT Service Animal Air Transportation Form online at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled flight.
  • Each passenger is allowed a maximum of 2 Service Animals for their journey.
  • Emotional Support Animals and Psychiatric Service Animals are no longer accepted for transportation in the passenger cabin.
  • Passengers accompanied by a Service Animal must check in at the ticket counter, one hour before the general public check-in time to verify their documents.
  • Passengers with a Service Animal can choose their seat preference, excluding emergency exit rows. If available, they will be seated in the bulkhead row, where the animal can comfortably lie on the floor without obstructing any aisles or emergency areas.
